The Somerset coast between Porlock Weir and Burnham-on-Sea boasts a range of subjects including rugged cliffs, charming villages, piers and and historic lighthouses, all of which we'll visit on our Somerset Coast workshop.

Porlock offers us the chance to shoot a quintessentially charming English seaside village, with its picturesque harbour, quaint cottages, and boats. The weathered groynes and posts will provide plenty of opportunities for fans of long exposure photography and endless scope for minimalist compositions. We'll be sure to visit at high tide, when the nearby fields flood, creating some unique photographic opportuntiies.

On this workshop, we will also photograph the classic wooden lighthouse at Burnham-on-Sea, the atmospheric harbour at Watchet and the stunning geology of Kilve beach - almost a cross between Kimmeridge Bay and the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. These locations will provide opportunties not only for classic 'big foreground' coastal compositions, but also for long exposure minimalism. With such a huge tidal range along this stretch of coastline, there will be times when the tide height is less than ideal. We've therefore prioritised the tides for our key locations at sunrise and sunset, and will take the opportunity to head inland to shoot rivers, ancient woodland and even a windmill at the times when we know things won't work so well at the coastal viewpoints.

Our accommodation is The Porlock Hotel, beautifully situated overlooking the historic harbour of Porlock Weir. The hotel is well known for its peaceful atmophere and wellness retreats and is well situated for easy access to our main viewpoints. Included in the cost of the workshop are two nights dinner, bed and breakfast accommodation in single-occupancy rooms and packed lunches on days 2 and 3. Group size is strictly limited to 8 people to maximise plenty of individual attention. For comfort and convenience, transport is via car sharing.

Your tutors for this workshop are Jeremy Walker and Mark Bauer. Jeremy grew up in Somerset and has an intimate knowledge the area, and he and Mark will make sure that you are always in the right place at the right time to capture the beauty, mood and drama of the Somerset coastline. We hope you can join us...
